The most valuable skill you can have in today's complex world …if you want to understand, live with and care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss … is the ability to educate yourself about how to "safely and successfully provide" care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss. No other skill can even come close… When I say, "educate yourself," I don't mean educate the way most caregiver's are taught to learn. In fact, when most caregivers think about sitting down to read books about Alzheimer's disease or other forms of memory loss, they stress themselves out. They do not want to read complicated literature. Such literature does not really help caregivers.
